MLB All Star Week Review: From the Anthem on Up

Another year of the MLB All-Star event has come and gone, which may have left some of the most memorable moments in recent years. You'd imagine the actual events would be the most talked about these past few days, but it seems like the national anthem before the home run derby is what has taken the sports world by storm.

Ingrid Andress, the four-time grammy nominee was asked to perform the national anthem this past week, and it may have been the most catastrophic anthem in recent time. For a summer event that's supposed to fire up baseball fans around the world, this anthem sounded like it was performed in cursive writing. All jokes aside, Ingrid Andress literally should have been pushed aside from this event, because her tone was so off it left fans around the world cringing at their television sets. In future light, it turns out Ingrid Andress admitted to being extremely drunk during her performance and is looking to check herself into rehab. Again, props to her for taking a stand to her own faults, but as she noted in her statement, she said "I heard it was fun" kind of takes a jab at the people really working out their addictions. Regardless of if Ingrid Andress is serious or not, she's not seriously welcome back in any manner.

Now, looking past the drama of an unforgettable anthem, the homerun derby actually turned out to be quite exciting. Teoscar Hernández became the first LA Dodger to win the event, and honestly may be the only thing the Dodgers win this year, and they're notoriously known for blowing every and any season they've been favored to win. It's funny isn't it, Americans around the world coming together to watch a bunch of grown men take a crack at some balls? Again, and jokes aside, it was nice to see someone not favored to win this event by any means come out from the bottom, dig deep, and ultimately penetrate the rest of the competition. It's one of the few All-Star events we can see, where the players actually give a damn, and ultimately give their best to win throughout the entire thing.

Lastly came the MLB All-Star game this past Tuesday night. The game started out with P. Skenes going hitless with one walk, showcasing his immense talent he's show us all year, along with Burnes and other rivals trying to match. With an exciting offensive inning in the third, where both teams decided to share 3 runs a piece, a handful of this All-Star game was very defensive as you'd expect. As the game made its way to the 5th inning, we got to witness two more runs, one being 1 out of 2 homers we got to witness throughout the night. Leaving the last four innings scoreless and quick, the American League won 5-3 and the game was over as quick as it started.

The All-Star game appears to be the only game in sports where the pro's actually give a shit. You look at the NBA, NHL etc., it's all just an event where the best in the world shares some laughs like high school cheerleaders and then go on with their season. The MLB pro's though, they'll be damned if they act out of line, and they showcase us the skills were so passionate to see, they're the type of hero's that match Joey Chestnut, reminding us that hot dogs and baseball go hand-in-hand in good old America.

At the end of the day, the winner of the All-Star game never really mattered unless you had some money on the game, and even then, was it really worth it? What does matter is that we had good company, a couple of cold beers, and still had a professional sports going to get us through the night that wasn't cricket. For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out, at the old ball game!
